Spread the Word
Take Action, Take a Stand, Speak Out!
I've compiled a list of organizations and events
that are annual as a way to gather survivors together in an
effort to speak out and raise awareness about rape, sexual abuse
and domestic violence. Many of these events I have been a part
of personally and there is nothing more fulfilling than the
connection you make with another survivor and the opportunity
that you have to help change the lives of others who perhaps
never understood the hearts of survivors.
The Clothesline Project
The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with
graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by
women survivors of violence or by someone who loves a woman who
has been killed. The purpose of the Project is to increase
awareness of the impact of violence against women, to celebrate
a woman's strength to survive and to provide another avenue for
her to courageously break the silence that often surrounds her
experience.
Operation Freefall
On
April 29, 2006, thousands of people will take a two-mile high
stand against sexual assault. At dozens of sky dive facilities
(“drop zones”) across the country, they'll take to the sky and
jump. It's all part of Operation Freefall, the boldest,
highest-altitude and most daring event organized to put an end
to sexual assault.
Take Back the Night
Take
Back the Night continues the effort to end violence against
women. Musical performances set the tone for two speakers who
bring their own personal insights about various forms of
violence. A speak-out follows which provides a supportive
environment for those survivors and secondary-survivors that
choose to share their experiences. After the speak-out, the
participants carry candles and march through campus breaking the
silence and making their voices heard. This is an experience
that you will never forget!
Organize a V-DAY Event
Every
year V-Day events take place at hundreds of locations around the
world. They take place in churches, town halls, theaters and
arenas. These events are organized by local college students and
local volunteers - people just like you.
Healing Through Creativity
Trauma Survivors and Supporters of Survivors of Trauma are
invited to share art, music, writing, poetry and other creative
forms at the Healing Through Creativity Festival.
SOAR SPA
SOAR
SPA (Something Positive Afterward) is a weekend retreat for
survivors and their families designed to enhance the healing
process by rejuvenating the spirit and fostering supportive
relationships and bonds.
